PROBLEM:
The Akwesasne community faces significant challenges in restoring traditional food systems, disrupted by colonization, industrial contamination, and environmental degradation. Modern challenges such as limited access to grocery stores and contaminated land have further hindered food sovereignty, making it crucial to reconnect the youth, elders, and community with sustainable practices.
APPROACH:
The exhibit aims to educate and inspire the community by showcasing the journey of restoring food sovereignty through the revitalization of traditional food practices. It will show sustainable methods like cultivating the three sisters, fishing, and foraging, while honoring ancestral wisdom and environmental stewardship. The exhibit will serve as a platform for both education and action, empowering the community to reclaim their food systems.
